An Operating System is the fundamental software that controls a PC. It takes care of how the hardware behaves, the communication with peripheral devices for instance a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between all the applications, plus the prioritization of apps if several run simultaneously. Every program which is installed on a computer system operates by sending requests to the OS for various services by using an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be achieved via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting field, the Operating System is what controls a web hosting server and all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for instance a VOIP or a game server. When there're virtual machines created, they employ a guest OS that runs on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

If you select one of our VPS server solutions, you'll have 3 different Operating Systems to pick from - CentOS, Debian and Ubuntu. They're all Linux distributions and we offer them rather than offering just one OS, as the applications that you might choose to run on the server may have specific requirements about the software environment. Each of these three has certain pros with regard to the available plans that you could eventually install, but what's common between them is that they're really stable and reliable and have vast communities which support them. The web hosting Control Panel options for the VPS accounts depend on your OS choice, so as to provide you with more flexibility. When you order the virtual server with one OS and you need a different one later, our tech support team can easily reinstall the VPS with the new one in a matter of minutes. We also offer the option to maintain the Operating System on your server up-to-date weekly.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server plans - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they are absolutely free so they will not increase the cost of your new web server, but also because they are outstandingly stable and secure. Each one of them is supported by a large community of developers, so you will be able to choose from a large number software packages that you can install on your server if the app that you would like to work with has certain requirements. The Operating System will also determine what web hosting Control Panel you can use since the Control Panels that we offer run on particular OSs only and since we would like to give you as much freedom as possible, we offer multiple OSs and multiple Control Panels. In case you get a server with a given OS, we will change it upon request if it turns out that you'll need alternative one. We can also keep your OS updated weekly as part of our useful Managed Services upgrade.
