When you add a domain as hosted in some account, you normally set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that particular company. On their end, three records are created automatically when the domain name is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain name where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that deals with the e-mails for that particular Internet domain. The site and the email hosting are often thought to be one thing, while they are in fact two different services. Having different records for them will enable you to have them with different companies if you want. For instance, some new provider can have outstanding uptime for your website, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain address to the former and MX records to have the emails with the second, you could get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you wish to open a site or send an e-mail - either way, the provider whose name servers are used for the Internet domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you'll see the needed website or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting from our company, you're going to be able to view, set up and change any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Provided that a specific domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to modify specific records by using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or e-mails directed to another company if you would like to use only one of our services. Our state-of-the-art tool will even enable you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name at all. If you choose to use the e-mail services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with only a few clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. Also you can set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our semi-dedicated servers, will enable you to see the A and MX records for every one of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if needed, to edit any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is very easy since all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a few more clicks and in case you experience any troubles, you can check out our instructional videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet advanced enough to provide you with complete control over all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are pointing your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to set up more than 2 different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
